Moving home? How we can help..

With spring, comes the reawakening of the property market and, for some of us, the less than joyful prospect of trying to sell, buy and move house.

Invariably this happens at the wrong time, absorbs hours, weeks and months, requires copious money and effort to resolve issues you've lived with for decades, whilst generating vast amounts of stress which exacerbates everything. The process can deprive you of £10,000s, sleep, humour and the ability to think straight or plan for the future with any degree of confidence.

It can also, however, offer a new beginning and an opportunity to make things work in a way that just wasn't possible before. This may be because you are in the wrong place, lack space, have difficult associations with the property or it just no longer meets your needs; physically, emotionally or both.

Often the hideousness of the process causes us to delay doing it until our hand is forced, be it by work, children, schooling, transport, poor health, disability, aging, bereavement, or just the need to move on; be it up, down or out, including into care.

When it happens, the scale can be overwhelming, yet it is something you need to get right to prevent moving the chaos with you. We rarely control the pace and nature of events, yet have to continue to function, plan and make key decisions whilst maintaining relationships and sanity (the truly important bits).

This is where we can come in, to absorb some of the stress, provide a fresh set of eyes, some emotional distance and the hands on help to get what is needed done and prevent everything and everyone else getting squashed in the fallout.

We don't have a fixed approach as each individual and set up is different. Your timescale will evolve, as will what you are trying to do within it. We can adapt to your needs and offer to:

  • Work alongside you, breaking the big into small chunks which we then do, e.g. sorting and boxing up a room or garage, so you only take what you need and want. You determine what will go where, and we can help rehome the rest.

  • Provide a sounding board, and help develop and execute a plan e.g. discuss how best to prepare your home and garden for sale, and put your decisions into practise e.g. ensure the garden is clear and shows just how much space and light is on offer.

  • Promise continuity of thought, action and people over the course of the sale. We organise and prioritise work weekly, and can adapt to all manner of tasks including liaising between different parties and dealing with the unexpected!

We've both worked with property and also know what it's like to be on the receiving end. We're flexible, adaptable, resourceful and strong. We work in 3 hour slots (as we find everyone is pretty much fried by that point) and can turn our hand to most things. We are also local - what we can't do, we can normally find someone who can, and we know where and how to rehome items you no longer need or use. Finally, we aren't family, which can take the heat out of many of the decisions required, and we can often help put wheels in motion, there and then.

You may find you don't move in the end - instead, you find you're able to adapt what you have to meet what you need. The time and effort spent on the process isn't wasted, it's just the outcome has morphed into something else.

If you think we might be able to help, do contact us for a free conversation, and then you can take it from there, bit by bit. The offer is there, and regardless of outcome, we wish you the best with your decision, and whatever comes next.
